Alternating or Rock Flippers are used in Vision Therapy (VT), Orthoptist Exercises and Sports Medicine. VT includes use in monocular and binocular accommodative facility testing and therapy. They have also been used in with the HTS Vision Therapy for Reading Skills development. Alternating Flippers are also called +/- rock Flippers and have been shown to be an effective intervention for accommodative insufficiency and convergence insufficiency.

Sports medicine applications are similar and include accommodation, convergence, divergence and fusional reserves however the goal is to achieve and even exceed normative values for the athlete.
