Frisby Stereo Plate Test

Consists of three test plates which permit stereo acuity measurement in the range 600-20 seconds depending upon viewing distance. Each plate is printed with four random texture patterns and hidden in one of these is a circular shade. The patient has to decide in which plate has an image that ‘rises’ or is ‘different’. Selection can only be accomplished successfully if stereopsis is present.

The key advantage of this test is that it can be used with very young children as they only need to indicate which quadrant is ‘different’. They do not need to name the image. Another advantage of the Frisby Stereo Plate Test is that it is a “natural” test, meaning that the patient does not have to wear Red/Green or Polarized Glasses.
